Lucerne violinist Jonas Erni performs regularly in Switzerland and abroad as a soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster/principal. After graduating with distinction from Karen Turpie’s studies in Schaffhausen and Igor Ozim’s master class in Bern, he obtained a position in the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, where he was assistant principal from 1999 to 2016 and worked with conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Pinchas Steinberg, Marek Janowski, Neeme Järvi and numerous international guests from concert and opera. In 2015, he was engaged as a leader in the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, where he performed with conductors James Gaffigan and Michael Sanderling, among others. Jonas Erni is an active in chamber music player in many ensembles, particularly the Trio Lucerna. In the orchestras Camerata Schweiz and Sinfonietta Schaffhausen, he has been involved for many years as concertmaster, soloist and project leader for transdisciplinary programmes. This has led to encounters with choreographer Royston Maldoom, comedians Ursus and Nadeschkin, director Tom Ryser, conductors Graziella Contratto, Howard Griffiths, Paul K. Haug and international soloists such as Mélodie Zhao, Vilde Frang and Claire Huangci. A diverse discography documents this fruitful collaboration.Jonas Erni is the winner of various sponsorship prizes (ORPHEUSconcerts, scholarships from the Kiefer-Hablitzel Foundation and the Schweizerischer Tonkünstlerverein, the Migros-Genossenschaftsbund and the Hans Schaeuble Foundation).
As composer and interpreter of his own works, Jonas Erni is currently performing succesfully his solo programmes BACH UND EIGENESand ANIMA. Jonas Erni plays on a violin by Marino Capicchioni (1959) and with an S9 violin bow made by Arcus in Würzburg.
