Sinfonie Orchester Biel Solothurn

Orchestra

The Symphony Orchestra of Biel Solothurn was founded in 1969 and has since held an important place in the Swiss musical landscape. Initially strongly influenced by its work with the Swiss conductors Armin Jordan and Jost Meier, the Symphony Orchestra Biel Solothurn has been conducted by Kaspar Zehnder since the 2012/2013 season.

The symphony concerts in Biel and Solothurn are at the centre of its artistic work. In addition to an intensive cultivation of the classical repertoire, a special interest is devoted to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries.

In addition to the symphony concerts and the opera productions of Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn, the orchestra presents chamber concerts, concerts for seniors and small children, as well as the annual open-air summer concerts with young musicians from all over Switzerland.

Various CD recordings have met with positive national and international acclaim. In February 2016 the latest CD with works by the romantic Robert Radecke was released on the CPO label. It is the prelude to a new series of recordings of little-known Romantic composers such as Ferdinand Thierot, Josef Rheinberger and Robert Volkmann. In coproduction with Schweizer Fonogramm the orchestra will record Joseph Lauber’s six symphonies as a world premiere recording.
